THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT KISCO

What's in a Name?

The village name represents the early experiences and observations of the Native Americans and Europeans who settled in this unique place we call Mount Kisco.  Mount comes from the 623 foot hill located in the Northwest portion of the village.  Kisco is derived from Native American words -either cisqua meaning 'a muddy place' or kiskamenahook meaning "settlement near a brook."  Both derivatives draw upon the waters of the Kisco River and Branch Brook streams, wetlands and valley, with 'Kisco Mountain' benignly looking over the valley.
